Diabetes Research at Benaroya Research Institute is focused on identifying the causes and cures of Type 1 (autoimmune) diabetes, through interactive, collaborative programs in basic and clinical research. Laboratory emphasis on immunologic and genetic markers of disease is closely linked to clinical trials and metabolic studies, and to the development of new preclinical models of immune tolerance and disease.
Multidisciplinary research centered on the patient--that is the cornerstone of diabetes research at BRI, translating basic science discoveries to advance new approaches to disease prediction, intervention and therapy.
The Diabetes Clinical Research Program runs clinical trials and conducts clinical research on human diabetes. The Diabetes Research Program encompasses not only this clinical research effort, but also the laboratories which conduct basic and translational research in diabetes and in areas of immunobiology which relate to diabetes.
