What is the Translational Research: JDRF study?

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International is sponsoring a natural history study looking at the causes of diabetes and other autoimmune diseases.

Who can participate?

Eligible participants include individuals who
have type 1 diabetes or a family member with type
1 diabetes. Individuals who were diagnosed with
type 1 diabetes less than two years ago are asked
to participate in additional tests.

What do I have to do as a study participant?

Participation in this study consists of visiting
the Benaroya Research Institute to give
blood samples and answer questions about personal
and family medical history. The blood samples are
used to investigate genetic markers associated
with autoimmune disease and to study measures of
autoimmunity such as antibodies and immune system
activity. Participation in this study is
completely voluntary and is of no direct benefit
to participants. All information obtained is
kept strictly confidential.
