Director, Flow Cytometry Core Lab and Research Associate Member
206-583-6564
Dr. Arumuganathan received his bachelor’s degree from Sri Lanka and Master’s degree from University of Wales, UK. He attended Ohio University, receiving his PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology in 1988. After post-doctoral work in chromosome sorting at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, he joined the University of Nebraska Faculty in 1992. Since 2001, he has been Research Associate Member and Director of the Flow Cytometry Core Laboratory at Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason.
As the primary source and contact for flow cytometric services, Dr Arumuganathan ensures successful operation of the BRI Flow Cytometry Core Laboratory. This includes sorting human and murine specimens for BRI’s research projects, providing technical support and training for flow cytometry users, and maintaining facility instrumentation: a 3-laser BD FACS Diva high-speed sorter, a 3-laser BD LSRII, a three dual laser BD FACSCaliburs, and a single laser BD FACSort.
Dr. Arumuganathan has an expertise in isolation, flow karyotyping and sorting of chromosomes. His current collaborative research activities include flow cytometric estimation of genome sizes, sorting of mitochondria and chloroplast.
