Our 2006 annual report outlines Benaroya Research Institute's 50 years of scientific achievements and current progress. Program growth and achievements in 2006 included major expansion of the diabetes clinical research trials and testing several immune therapies as early intervention in Type 1 (autoimmune) diabetes. In the BRI laboratory and translational research programs, highlights included successful projects that incrased the understanding of regulatory T cells to create novel therapies for immune diseases, broadened investigation of a newly discovered trigger for asthma and other allergic conditions, and expanded tetramer technology to target even more diseases with biological markers. In 2006, BRI also launched the Center for Control of Inflammation and Tissue Repair (CITR).
